Associate Treasury Accountant

OVERVIEW

Treasury Accountants are responsible for maximizing return from Sun Communities and related affiliates cash flow by creating, implementing and maintaining systems, while adhering to certain tax or mortgage related restrictions. The Treasury Accountant will update all cash management financial information to the general ledger and are accountable for certain financial areas of specialization to support the integrity of the consolidated financial statements (prepaid insurance, accrued liabilities and deposits).

 

JOB DUTIES

  • Reviews daily cash positioning for all accounts in all currencies applicable to Sun Communities. Recommends & executes cash transfers, coordinates incoming & outgoing payments, determines line of credit borrowings & repayments.
  • Posts daily activity to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
  • Prepares, validates, and maintains global short-term (8-week) cash forecast for the company. Maintains and analyzes variances in forecast (actual vs. forecast) to enhance cash forecasting methodology.
  • Maintains banking relationships with partner banks consisting of stand-alone & consolidated bank structures for local, national, & international bank accounts. Serves as an intermediary between the sites & banks to facilitate & resolve banking issues.
  • Maintains sufficient amount of banking supplies needed at the sites, coordinates opening and closing of bank accounts, coordinates incoming/outgoing wires including debt payments, and resolves banking errors and/or issues.
  • Takes an active lead in researching and staying current on bank account structures, investment opportunities, line of credit borrowing programs and other cash liquidity and financing options.
  • Maintains current documented written procedures to ensure adequate support during scheduled absences.
  • Meets with primary banks, analyzes alternatives and recommends strategies based on typical cash flow activity. Identifies areas to minimize bank fees or negotiate fees to Suns advantage.
  • Identifies and recommends methods to integrate credit cards and wire transfers into its business to provide a wider variety of services. Takes a leadership role in implementing these services by coordinating with Operations, Accounting and MIS staff.
  • Reconciles miscellaneous balance sheet accounts including parent company accrued liabilities and acquisition deposits; follows-up on outstanding issues.
  • Processes and/or supports various payment methods including AR ACH payments and credit card processing.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Required)
  • 1+ year cash management responsibilities
  • 1+ year general ledger responsibilities
  • Creative, logical, and demonstrates initiative to research new cash management strategies
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships without forfeiting profitability
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel
