Job Summary

The Sr. Payroll Specialist acts as a subject matter expert related to payroll and is responsible for leading the process of payroll preparation, submission, distribution, and reporting. They lead the preparation of regular and special payroll reports, ensure the integrity and confidentiality of payroll-related information, advise managers, and answer routine team member questions.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates use of the time and attendance module ensuring timely submission by team members and managers; assists managers/supervisors with timekeeping issues. (Essential)
  • Ensures payroll process adheres to strict auditing process, following SOX requirements. (Essential)
  • Leads the payroll process for approximately 4,000 team members on a bi-weekly basis. (Essential)
  • In partnership with Manager, collaborates with payroll vendor to address and resolve issues and system updates.
  • Analyzes current payroll, HRIS and records processes and identifies activities to improve efficiency, effectiveness and exceed customer expectations; submits recommendations to management.
  • Leads the payment processing of bonuses, commissions, and any other special payments or payrolls.
  • Assists in the training and development of payroll team members.
  • Assists the payroll manager with team member selection and development and ensures team members comply with appropriate policies and procedures.
  • In partnership with Manager, Payroll & HRIS, works with local and state government agencies as needed to setup and investigate tax-related filings.
  • Ensures inquiries to payroll are addressed timely and accurately to reflect best practices.
  • Responds to management reporting/research requests; creates special reports as needed.
  • Updates data files after each payroll processing; generates and coordinates filing of required payroll reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field (Required)
  • In lieu of the above education requirements, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • 2 years in prior experience SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll or SAP Payroll (Required)
  • 5 years in payroll experience with a multi-departmental, multi-state employer with at least 500 team (Required)
  • 5 years in experience within a payroll/HR department (Required)
  • 1 year in prior experience with SAP SuccessFactors Employee (Preferred)
  • 1 year in prior experience with Workforce Software Time & Attendance Management (Preferred)
  • Ability to interact in a positive and approachable manner with all levels of team members
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Human Resources Information Systems and their application
  • Knowledge of state payroll tax laws
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Strong computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to create and design
