Property Accountant

OVERVIEW
As a Property Accountant, you’ll partner with the Regional Vice President to prepare, review and reconcile financial information for your assigned communities/resorts. You’ll complete adjusting journal entries to the general ledger to ensure the financial statements accurately reflect operations for reach community/resort. Additionally, you'll assist with the preparation of consolidated financial statements, maintenance of the corporate GL, and preparation and/or analysis of special reports.
This position is hybrid.
JOB DUTIES
- Review and analyze financial results from field operations.
- Ensure proper accounting of all operating functions impacting property P&L.
- Identify opportunities for streamlining and improving processes; develop and implement training and communications to improve all financial aspects of property operations.
- Verify accuracy of transactions completed by Community/Resort Managers by reviewing End of Month property reports; prepare adjusting journal entries for each community/resort to ensure financial statements accurately reflect operations.
- Assist Regional Vice President with addressing issues and/or questions related to the monthly financial operating results of each community/resort and provide analysis of actual vs. budget variances.
- Analyze and reconcile activities in certain balance sheet accounts such as cash, prepaid expenses, accrued receivables/payables and other assets/liabilities; prepare adjusting journal entries and schedules as needed.
- Review and approve all Accounts Payable invoices for appropriate GL coding and proper GAAP accounting treatment
- Prepare work papers for quarterly reviews and annual audits as assigned.
- Perform complex, multi-entity tasks that involve research and reconciliation of accounting data.
- Take an active lead in coordinating accounting-related matters within Accounting and other departments, and identify procedures to accommodate growth and new business.
- Establish, lead or serve on committees to help resolve issues; produce written procedures on the new policies and train affected team members.
- Assist with corporate GL maintenance and preparing consolidated financial statements.
- Collaborate with debt and investor relations team members to resolve property-level inquiries.
- Review and identify other accruals on a proactive basis.
- Review community activity; understand and support preparation of community CapX budgets including reviewing overages, approving opening of jobs, assisting with movements of funds and approving additional funds as needed, and working with the Divisional & Regional Vice Presidents to understand communities and how funds are allocated.
- Conducts return on investment analysis for expansion jobs.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or related field
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a staff accountant role; experience in a multi-entity organizational structure, preferred
- Prior experience booking expense accruals, reviewing financial results and providing explanations for noted variances
- Knowledge of advanced bookkeeping principles and practices
- Good analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excelled computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, email and internet
