OVERVIEW

The Director, Project Management position is responsible for establishing and maintaining Suns enterprise project management standards, tools and methodologies, including oversight of the project management life cycle and gate reviews. This position assigns and prioritizes project management resources and regularly assesses project quality and efficiency. They mentor project managers on project planning, stakeholder engagement, communication, adherence to scope and timelines, and promote reporting transparency.

JOB DUTIES

  • Coordinates team member selection and development and ensures team members comply with appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to Suns Timekeeping Policy by reviewing, verifying accuracy, approving and submitting direct report(s) time recorded.
  • Partners with Team Relations on team member counseling and recommendation of termination when appropriate.
  • Conducts team member performance reviews and recommends compensation adjustments.
  • Assesses and regularly refines Suns enterprise project management standards, methodologies and tools
  • Leads collaborative efforts to identify, document and share project management best practices
  • Creates and maintains transparent project reporting and resource utilization tracking
  • Ensures project documentation including charters, meeting minutes, action items and briefs are clear and concise
  • Sets clear expectations with team members, sets an example of effective project management at Sun, and is willing to be hands on
  • Develops strong relationships with peers in functional areas to ensure successful achievement of project goals in alignment with organizational strategy
  • Establishes and maintains project initiation, execution, governance and communication standards
  • Oversees Project Managers on lifecycle stages, including gate reviews
  • Establishes and tracks key project performance metrics to promote accountability
  • Assigns project management resources and prioritizes to ensure efficient utilization
  • Ensures necessary functional and technical stakeholders are identified and included on project teams
  • Ensures appropriate communication to team members, management, sponsors, and stakeholders occurs throughout project lifecycle
  • Assesses and implements project management reporting tools; reports project status to senior leadership
  • Develops team ability to identify risks to project quality and timelines and tactfully push back on stakeholders
  • Maintains an effective approach to monitoring real time status of deliverables and takes timely action to address findings
  • Mentors the team to elevate the functional skillset, build organizational knowledge, and achieve professional goals
  • Assists in prioritizing potential future projects
  • Promotes Suns culture and service-oriented philosophy
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Project Management or Information Systems (Required)
  • 10+ years experience managing complex, cross functional projects in a high stakes environment
  • 1 year experience implementing enterprise ERP solutions
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with functional and technical audiences
  • Ability to comprehend and anticipate changes in business and resulting needs
  • Effective at working across organizational boundaries
  • Ability to lead change through influence and navigate conflicts by providing practical alternate options
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and advise senior leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple large, complex projects concurrently
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills
