Train Operator - Part Time

Frontier Town Campground (FRO)



Are you someone who enjoys meeting new people and likes working with their hands? We are looking for a Train Operator to provide transportation throughout the resort for our guests. You'll also be working hands-on with the maintenance and upkeep of both the train and the railroad tracks, repairing them as needed. As a Train Operator you'll drive a steam engine train to transport guests throughout the resort. You'll be responsible for ensuring guest satisfaction, safety and security. Additionally, you'll perform heavy duty work when operating the steam engine ensuring it's fueled with coal and complete maintenance repairs as needed.


  1. Greet guests and customers; assist passengers getting on and off the train as needed.
  2. Address ongoing operation needs of the train, including fueling with coal.
  3. Monitor and inspect train for maintenance issues and repairs on a daily basis; perform repairs and communicate maintenance need to Entertainment Manager as needed.
  4. Follow safety laws and procedures while performing duties, including safely operating the steam engine.
  5. Maintain cleanliness of train, both inside and outside, including trash removal.  
  6. Communicate safety procedures to guests entering and exiting the train.
  7. Perform railroad damage repairs when needed.
  8. Participate in small Western themed performances, as needed.
  9. Transport and unload Entertainment Performers for shows.
  10. Answer questions and interact with passengers throughout each train ride.
  11. Provide information and responds to guest inquiries regarding local attractions, resort information, directions, etc. to ensure guest satisfaction is maximized.
  12. Other duties as assigned.


  • High School Education (some HS education required)
  • Previous experience operating steam engines, preferred
  • Ability to complete extensive steam engine operation training provided onsite
  • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of people
  • Ability to endure seasonal temperatures as working conditions require constant outdoor work
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Basic computer proficiency including the ability to use email and internet
